FaceClubs.com, Not Facebook.com?

John Tyra | July 8th, 2008

Most people have heard of the social network site FaceBook.com, MySpace.com and many others out there…but FaceClubs.com? At first it sounds like a knock-off FaceBook website, since it is technically a ’social’ website, but in fact it is geared towards those who in the Night Club scene. Their most recent announcement is regarding an alliance with some of the clubs in Toronto, Canada for special events to be available to the 100,000+ people who are engaged in the weekend night life in that area.

What I find funny is the press release claim that there many other ‘glossy’ websites competing for the patrons attention, and that FaceClubs.com is supposted to be a better alternative, boasting a "clean, easy to navigate appearance". Um…have you seen their website? Clean and easy to navigate are not the first words that come to mind…perhaps overly ad-driven and web 1.0 design would be more accurate descriptors. Just my opinion! =)

Check out their site, and you tell me…

Microsoft Planning to Aquire MobiComp

John Tyra | June 26th, 2008

Microsoft must have given up on Yahoo! and decided to aquire someone else. Today, Microsoft announced their plans to aquire MobiComp, but they are not a replacement for Yahoo! by any means. Instead, MobiComp is more of a technology company that deals with mobile "social network" content delivery plus backup and restore solutions. In their press release, Microsoft did mention MobiComp in conjunction with some big names like Facebook so it looks like this aquisition is not exactly ’small potatoes’.

Some of the named services that MobiComp offers is "MobileKeeper Backup & Restore, MobileKeeper Sharing & Communities, and Active mTicker" Microsoft says. The company has been around since 2000.

Is Microsoft trying to put pressure on Apple’s offering of services?
