Apple Now In China

John Tyra | July 19th, 2008

While Apple can’t compare to the sheer volume of other companies, they are growing. For example, everyone was excited that Apple sold over 1 million iPhones during their weekend launch. Nokia ships over 1 million phones every single business day. The numbers vary, but the same scale is true when comparing Apple to their software counterparts like Microsoft, or the OEMs like HP.

But, be small as they may, Apple does have around 200 or more stores globally. Their newest addition to this figure? Beijing, China! As is the typical norm with Apple events, there were people lined up overnight to be the ‘first in line’ at the new store. Haven’t these people heard of Apple.com? Anyway, not much to this story, but it is Apple’s first store in China so who knows what they are up to…

3G iPhone Already Unlocked/Cracked

John Tyra | July 15th, 2008

It’s been, what, not even a week since the 3G iPhone has been released? For those who have been considering using the 3G iPhone on other networks, consider no more…see the original blog who broke this story or the cNet story on this, but soon it’ll be all over the place (if it’s not already). Sure, it’s more Apple and iPhone news, but you have to admin it’s kinda funny. =)

Apple: 1mil iPhones Sold & 10mil Apps Downloaded

John Tyra | July 14th, 2008

Busy news day today, wow…so Apple says that they not only sold over 1 million iPhones during their first weekend of sales but that they also had over 10 million applications downloaded as well. Maybe that’s why there were so many stories about iPhone activation problems with AT&T and the iTunes store being down? Hmm, go figure. You know, if this was a Microsoft story, it’d be a bashfest for the average blogger, right?

iPhone 2.0 Official Release!

John Tyra | July 11th, 2008

I should be careful here…if I keep up this iPhone and Apple coverage I may get accused of being a fanboy. =^.^=

For the technical side, this ‘update’ is well over 200MB in size and is supposed to come already installed on the new 3G iPhone. So…maybe that’s another reason why you have to activate the phone at ATT/Apple instead of having it shipped directly, because they can update the firmware at the last minute. There is a slew of items that 2.0 brings for the typical home user as well as the corporate user, according to Macworld and other sources. Most exciting about the 2.0 release is the support for 3rd party apps, or at least the 3rd party apps that Apple ‘approves’ that is.

Ok, I’ll leave it at that…I know some of you are sick and tired of the iPhone news. =)

Microsoft Planning to Aquire MobiComp

John Tyra | June 26th, 2008

Microsoft must have given up on Yahoo! and decided to aquire someone else. Today, Microsoft announced their plans to aquire MobiComp, but they are not a replacement for Yahoo! by any means. Instead, MobiComp is more of a technology company that deals with mobile "social network" content delivery plus backup and restore solutions. In their press release, Microsoft did mention MobiComp in conjunction with some big names like Facebook so it looks like this aquisition is not exactly ’small potatoes’.

Some of the named services that MobiComp offers is "MobileKeeper Backup & Restore, MobileKeeper Sharing & Communities, and Active mTicker" Microsoft says. The company has been around since 2000.

Is Microsoft trying to put pressure on Apple’s offering of services?

Apple 3G iPhone — Only Cost $173?

John Tyra | June 24th, 2008

Nice profit margin for Apple and AT&T both…if this PC World story is legit that is. (For the record, they’re referencing market researcher iSuppli as their source.) However, given the large volume Apple probably promised the vendors, it could be feasible. Granted, AT&T has not ‘officially’ said one way or another regarding how much the actual data/text plans will be for the new 3G phone. We can all bet that they will be making their fair share, thought, there is no doubt about that. As with all things tech, only time will tell…

What do you think about this?

AT&T’s Site down, go 3G iPhone

John Tyra | June 9th, 2008

It’s the twitter effect, but it’s still funny =)

The AT&T site was pretty slow right after the keynote, too…they were hurting.

Everyone’s talking about it…the 3G iPhone! ;)

John Tyra |

So what’s not to be excited about this? I’m not an Apple ‘fanboy’ but come on, $199 for 8GB of 3G speed GPS goodness that’ll last you 300 hours of standby time?!? I am ~so~ picking up one of these! For those who didn’t follow the WWDC second-by-second, here are the nerdy details:

==> July 11th <==

  • iPhone 3G 8GB - $199 Global MAX price
  • iPhone 3G 16GB - $299
  • GPS
  • ‘Thinner’ (not sure by how much?)
  • Plastic back, not metal (for the better radio reception?)
  • Talk time:5h @ 3G, 10h @ 2G
  • Standby: 300h
  • Browsing: 5h-6h
  • Video: 7h
  • Audio: 24h

Most of this is from http://www.macrumorslive.com/photos/ like this one:

What are you thoughts? Do you want one? =)
