Zune Pass subscribers get to keep 10 songs

John Tyra | November 20th, 2008

Zune Pass subscribers get to keep 10 songs. Wow, this is pretty darn good really. Think about it: @ $1 x 10 songs, you’re getting $10 free per month like the article says, so you’re only paying $5 for the subscription. Not a bad deal, even though I use an iPod myself. =)

Space Station residents to drink recycled urine | Cutting Edge - CNET News

John Tyra | November 14th, 2008

Space Station residents to drink recycled urine | Cutting Edge - CNET News. Um, what? Surely there is some other method for obtaining water. Maybe if they didn’t actually *tell* me that “Oh, by the way, you’re drinking piss”. That’s just gross, I don’t care how much it’s filtered. =(

Sun restructures, lays off up to 6,000 | Business Tech - CNET News

Sun restructures, lays off up to 6,000 | Business Tech - CNET News. Another major hit this week in the technology sector with Sun Microsystems as they announce the layout of ~6k of their employees. Perhaps we should keep a running total of how many tech companies are joining the layout party and how many layoffs they account for.

The BlackBerry Storm is no iPhone | The Digital Home - CNET News

John Tyra |

The BlackBerry Storm is no iPhone | The Digital Home - CNET News. So even users know about the iPhone, and perhaps they have heard of a BlackBerry, but doubtful that they have heard of the BlackBerry Storm. So even if it’s ten times better than the iPhone it probably won’t be as popular or amass as many sales due to it’s popularity and scope. Scope, you say? But of course! The RIM devices are more of a corporate centric item versus a mainstream consumer item, even though they are (of course) equally available to both markets.

John Tyra | November 13th, 2008

Blizzard releases Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack | Macworld. For any WoW player, this is no suprise, nor is it any ‘news’. But, if you’re an MMORPG’er of another variety like EQ or Warhammer, then FYI on why your friends are not returning your phone calls or emails. =)

BBC NEWS | Technology | Spam plummets as gang leaves net

John Tyra |

BBC NEWS | Technology | Spam plummets as gang leaves net. Well there is some good news after all. After only 48 hours: “Anti-spam firm Ironport has seen junk mail levels drop by 70% since McColo was taken offline on 11 November.” WOW! These kids at McColo must have been hauling it out by the truckload. Don’t get too excited, though. “”It is an unprecedented drop but will be a temporary outage as the networks move from North America to places where there is less scrutiny,” said Jason Steer, a spokesman for Ironport. “

Parallels Desktop 4.0 gets a 50 percent speed boost over 3.0

Parallels Desktop 4.0 gets a 50 percent speed boost over 3.0. I’m a VMware fan myself, but hey, I’ll take virtualization in any form that I can get it. If you are a Mac user, then this one is for you. =)

Yahoo in precarious position as its CEO beckons to Microsoft

John Tyra |

Yahoo in precarious position as its CEO beckons to Microsoft. Oh, how funny. Didn’t Yahoo jump through flames, declare war and sell their first born to prevent a Microsoft aquisition? And, yet, here they are months later crying to Microsoft about their situation. Personally, I have no pity, because they are only eager to do this now that the economy has been rough with them, not to mention that Google said “NO” to the proposed ad deal. We’ll see how this goes!
